In the words of Apex Coffee Imports: "Finca El Desoriente, located in the village of El Teocinte in the municipality of Santa Cruz Naranjo, has a fascinating history. Originally, the family concentrated on growing sugar cane for panela production in the lower regions and coffee in the upper regions due to the topography. At the end of the 1960s, aware of the need to process their coffee production, they set up a deparchment factory on site. At the time, there were only two mills in the municipality, and none in the village. As these facilities were inadequate for the entire production, the decision was made to process the coffee on site. Initially, this involved a Witti-type machine, powered by a diesel generator. Today, a larger wet grinder enables them to process a capacity five times greater per hour, testifying to their progress. El Desoriente's competitive edge is attributed to factors such as this, but also to the different altitudes and microclimates that enhance the coffee's aromatic profile."
