Through Orlando's words:
"I am an active member of the peaceful resistance against the extraction of metallic chemical materials from our territory, and a defender of collective human rights. Since I can remember, my father Candelario de Jesus Zuleta would get up at four in the morning to have breakfast and prepare our tools to go to work - the hoe and the colima. He taught me that we should plant all kinds of trees, especially fruit trees, such as orange, lemon, tangerines, bananas, etc. Fruits that we later collected to take home and share with our family.
Today I have my own family and a 6 year old son to whom I teach with dedication and love the art of growing coffee and caring for our planet."
Orlando's coffee is part of the Mataquescuintla community which is part of a peaceful resistance opposing a Vancouver-based mining company from coming into their community to extract.
Bows Coffee Roasters (and other roasters) have committed to purchasing this regions coffee to support the farmers and community members. We hop on and commit to purchasing from this community every year to help where we can. Drink and think on this one.
